The death last week of a 24-year-old Lorain man who was mauled by a bear was a tragic end to a young life. Brent Kandra's family and friends are grief-stricken, and a community is left to wonder what could have prevented this senseless loss.
What's deeply saddening is that this young man's death could have been prevented. Basic laws forbidding private citizens from keeping dangerous wild animals are needed before another person is killed or injured in a similar manner and more animals are allowed to suffer at the hands of people who have no business owning them.
